Comedy - What if?

Box Office Mojo, a site linked on this blog under Movie Matters, has a fascinating listing today under its genre section, entitled: "COMEDY - WHAT IF? Comedies About Metaphysical Questions That Come to Pass by Fantastical Means But in Realistic Settings1977-Present"
Before reading the listing, which was obviously prompted by the release of "Stranger than Fiction", how many other films come immeditately to mind?

After making your own list, see how they stack up in terms of B.O. returns by clicking here.

Quiz: After looking at the list, I thought of a notable omission, that then led me to another omission, and suddenly I realized that they had carved out/ignored an entire subgenre of the "Comedy-What if" genre. Lunch to the first person who can figure out what group/sub-sub genre I'm talking about.

Hint: The answer should get easier as we move toward the end of the semester.

Actually there are quite a few omissions in my opinion if I understand the categorization correctly. Most prominent to me are sci-fi/superhero comedies such as the recent My Super Ex-Girlfriend or how about Back to the Future or Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, or how about Ghostbusters, Men in Black, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I could go on for awhile! I have a sneaking suspicion that sci-fi will reveal its importance during the semester...

Plus, all of these originate in realistic settings, in fact are rooted in them until they take a plunge into the sci-fi world (think about Arthur Dent in his bathrobe as the earth prepares to be plowed over as a galactic highway)
