elvis presley - king creole

In the preceding post I mentioned that there was an Elvis double feature and that King Creole shows better than most why Elvis was so popular to a certain generation. This is not the fat white jump suit Elvis but a scarily charismatic performer that just exudes sex appeal. Watch the video and tell me I'm wrong. ... And let me know if it inspires interest in venturing out to see it on the big screen.

Tarantino's Top 20 Movies Since 1992

I mentioned this in class. Tarantino's talks about Unbreakable at the end of his list and what he says is relevant to our discussion. He also talks about several other films, like Battle Royale, that are brilliant.
Well worth listening to.

HAIR COWBOY

Another LA as a film character, from the festival, and the one with the best title.

City Of Violence Cine-East.com scene

I thought you might want to take a look at this clip from City of Violence. I dare you to watch it and not want to go see these films!

Another L.A. film: Kiss Me Deadly

If I remember correctly, this is an L.A. film. If I'm wrong, you should still see it anyway, if only to understand the concept of the mysterious suitcase in Pulp Fiction.

JACKIE BROWN LA Film #10

I picked this one, but it's meant to carry the water for QT's other films, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and even his script True Romance. Jackie Brown may be his best film, and it's the one you've most likely missed. Order it now.

L.A. Story -- LA Film Pick

Here's the other comedy. I'm including it because it has so many good LA jokes, but if you haven't seen Swingers or Hollywood Shuffle, those are possibly more entertaining for you guys. The Graduate is even better, I just thought you might find it dated.

Wax - Southern California (A Film By Spike Jonze)

Okay, it's a good song, not a great song, but the video put it into the top dozen.#12.

Arlo Guthrie- Coming into Los Angeles

And the final two songs - just to remind everyone that I did grow up in the 60s and 70s. #9

Public Enemy - Burn Hollywood Burn video remix

#5 - half way thru the top ten - gotta think about making some cuts. Sorry, Eagles fans but the Hotel California's not going to make the cut!

Luis Bunuel Tribute

Since I pushed Bunuel so much in my last post, I thought I'd link to a little montage of some of his film moments to give you a taste. Enjoy.

Planet of the Vampires (1965) - Trailer

Sam's post reminded me that I haven't done my -- If you want to know more about the director -- post for Mario Bava. This isn't it, but here's a trailer of his that gives you an idea of what I was talking about in terms of his influence on Ridley Scott's Alien.

Monty Python - Bicycle Repair Man

I meant to show this one in class -- for the British take on Superman -- A great Monty Python skit.

Indian Superman

Okay, here's the actual Bollywood version, as compared to the previously posted Tollywood version.

Seinfeld Superman interview

If you've never seen the Am EX Seinfeld/Superman web commercials, they are very funny. This is not one of them, but is a Today Show interview. Listen to the genre references.

The actual commercials are also on YouTube.

Indian Superman - Revised

Not to step on Aaina's Bollywood toes, but this is an early Indian superman film that I thought you'd appreciate.

Update: In attempting to answer Dave's question, I found out that this film is not Bollywood product at all, but instead is actually Tollywood (Bengali film industry)
