Genre matters. It especially matters to students in the Duke in Los Angeles program where we study all things genre, whether in film, television, music, gaming, or comics. Los Angeles also matters, and this site should also share helpful information about what to do while staying in Los Angeles.

Last Post of the Day, I promise.
At least skim the two posts preceding this one -- the Bordwell form post and the Denby industry post. I did those next to each other for a precise reason. This semester, at least my class, is going to be about combining theory (Bordwell) with real world concerns (Denby). Too many film classes, in my opinion, concentrate on one to the exclusion of the other, depending upon whether the course is set under a critical studies or production mantle. Think of me as the Reese's Cup film professor (Hey, you got your peanut butter in my chocolate. No, you got your chocolate in my peanut butter) Note: For the obligatory Family Guy joke on that subject, see above.
