Various Ones of us saw some films over the weekend, so I thought I'd offer some supplemental suggestions:
For those of you that liked Pan's Labyrinth, I offer the following:
The director del Toro made a very interesting first film in 1993 Cronos (arguably a vampire movie)and an excellent film similar in setting and tone to Pan's called The Devil's Backbone.
I'd also recommend a Spanish film which uses genre to comment on the Spanish Civil War -- Victor Erice's Spirit of the Beehive. There's a good Guardian piece on the film here. and Criterion released a DVD of the film this year.

Unfortunately, I don't have any sort of video store by me...would you be willing to lend out any one (or does anybody else have access to these so I could pay and you rent them for me?) I really want to see all of them, but mostly Cronos and The Devil's Backbone.
I own the Spirit of the Beehive Criterion Collection DVD and would be happy to loan it to you. If I rent either of the Del Toro movies anytime soon (I've been planning on getting Devil's Backbone) I'll pass them on to you.
You are welcome to borrow both Devil's Backbone and Cronus. I'll bring them to you on Friday.
Sounds great, thanks very much...then i can watch those instead of spamming this blog too frequently
