Legendary Entertainment's Prestige Picture '42' Gets White House Endorsement

“We think that everybody in this country needs to watch this movie.”

What a great compliment to be bestowed by unexpected-film-critic, Michelle Obama. The movie she is referring to, the Jackie Robinson biopic '42' -- the latest prestige picture to receive a screening at the White House.

Though White House movie screenings have been in place since the time of Wilson and the birth of motion pictures, the Obamas have been selective about the type of films they choose to highlight. Often times, themes of selected films include persistance in the face of adversity and African American struggles. The previous films to receive the honor were 'Lincoln' and 'Beasts of the Southern Wild'.

From this standpoint, '42' was understandably showcased but from the producer's side, it's an unusual project. Produced by Legendary Pictures in association with Warner Bros., the biopic about America's first Black major league baseball player is a far cry from the typical superhero films the company produces. Interestingly, they have marketed along the same lines, touting Robinson as the 'American Legend'.

'42' is set for box office release on April 12th.
